Apple Valley Chamber Names Business, Volunteer of the Year

The Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards luncheon on Wednesday.

Anchor Bank manager Misty Scholler was named volunteer of the year, and Severson, Sheldon, Dougherty & Molenda law firm was named business of the year, at the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce annual awards luncheon on Wednesday.

Scholler, who is the Chamber's Ambassadors chairperson, said she didn't even know she was nominated until the luncheon, held at Old Chicago.

Chamber President Ed Kearney said Scholler is "one of those can-do people" about whom he could not say enough good things.

The business of the year award for Severson Sheldon has been "a long, long time deserved," Kearney said. The firm is active in the community and shows a lot of leadership, he said.

"It's an honor" to receive the business of the year award, said attorney Loren Solfest. The Chamber is great for the community, he said.

At the awards, Kearney gave a speech about out-going Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mike Maguire, owner of Kwik Kopy Business Center.

Maguire is a leader who walks beside others to help guide them, Kearney said; he keeps an impressive schedule—he's also a Delta Airlines pilot—and is involved throughout Apple Valley and Lakeville.

"He gave it all," Kearney said, "and left nothing in the tank."

Kearney also presented Apple Valley Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland with a special gift for city hall—a U.S. map he had found that had Apple Valley's location already printed on it.

Among the other honorees at the luncheon were:

  • 40th anniversary gala sponsor Severson, Sheldon, Dougherty & Molenda
  • Local Issues Committee co-chairpersons Ken Johnson of MN-CE and Jodi Kurtz of Warners' Stellian
  • Golf Class chairperson Bethany Marquette of M&I
  • Ambassadors chairperson Misty Scholler of Anchor Bank
  • 40th anniversary gala chairperson Christine Cassellius of Severson, Sheldon, Dougherty & Molenda
  • Out-going Chamber board of directors members: Janet Holmquist of HealthPartners; Ed Corbett of Sterling State Bank; Loren Solfest of Severson, Sheldon, Dougherty & Molenda
